Smoky Quartz Skull
Smoky Quartz crystals have been used in religious and shamanistic systems for thousands of years. Smoky Quartz honours Hecate, the Thracian Goddess of Wisdom, Crossroads and Ghosts. She is also The Goddess of The Occult and the Dark Moon, the side we are unable to see. She has power over the heavens, earth and the underworld.
Smoky Quartz honours Gaia, the Greek Earth Mother Goddess. Born directly out of Chaos, the primal emptiness, she was the first (or one of the first) beings to appear during the process of creation, and is honoured as being the Earth itself. All crystals of Quartz honour Gendenwitha, the Morning Star Goddess of the Iroquois; and Quartz clusters honour Lxcuiname, the Mayan Goddess of the Four Ages of Women.
Contemporary Wiccans wear Smoky quartz, often combined with silver, during Full Moon rituals. Because quartz is also a goddess symbol, the crystal spheres are often placed on the altar during lunar rituals. The crystals icy cold temperatures represent the sea. Two quartz crystals are also placed on Wiccan altars to represent the God and Goddess- the two primal, creative powers of the universe.
